Anna Maria Fortier had only one purpose in life while growing up. She was to obey her abusive parents implicitly. And she did. Until something happened that made her realize how perverted they really were.
She worked in their Salvation Army Thrift and rang the bell for donations from the day she was old enough to hold it by herself. The mean streets of Akron, Ohio were her playground and the only friends she was allowed were those who lived on them. It was hard to miss love and caring in your life when you’ve never had it, but the day Anna Maria found out she was adopted, she began to hope that there was a way out of her miserable existence. Maybe she was worth something after all.
Anna Maria escaped her foul life when she was 16 and fought hard to make it on her own.
Twenty years later, she was ready to connect with her birth mother. A Canadian! But at the last minute, Anna Maria backed out and decided too much time had elapsed. What good would come of anything now? Best to let sleeping dogs lie.
However, her boyfriend Brennan had other ideas. He found her birth mother online, writing a blog called Parca’s Chosen, and Anna Maria found she was able to meet her mother after all…without having to actually meet her. She had brothers and sisters who talked to cats and a German step-dad who didn’t know the difference between buying and wearing women’s underwear! Reading about the crazy antics and happy, privileged lives of those she was a part of, but never really a part of, made her confused and uncertain.
Through Anna Maria’s in-depth recounting of her own life's experiences as she reads through the blog, we see the journeys (often comical and sometimes brutal and heartbreaking) of two women who were separated by circumstance, and who now have the chance to reunite through the world of the internet.
Maybe it really was time to meet this woman who she was getting to know on the sly. The more she read through the funny and oft time’s poignant blog posts, the more Anna Maria began to forgive her mother for abandoning her. But you would never know it by the nasty comments she left.
This had the potential for a happy ending. Or just an ending.

This book was an interesting read & well written overall. I found the main character's story to be both fascinating & disturbing, due to her early childhood experiences as an adoptee & how it shaped her entire outlook on life. As a survivor of abusive adoptive parents, the scars of her mental/emotional pain run deep, from what I gathered in reading this book.In finding her birth mother, which she was reluctant to do, she allowed her anger & pain to lash out at her in a very passive aggressive manner. This occurred through her anonymous commentary on her mother's blog. It was understandable as to why this took place, given the history of the trauma that adoption quite often entails for so many children, especially when the new family expects the child they chose to fulfill their sick needs, rather than fulfilling the child's needs. It leaves wounds of the spirit that never truly heal.

Parca Forsaken eBook Denise SevierFries Chaelan Sevier Reviews
A very well written book. So sad in parts, funny in others. Really enjoyed reading it.
Loved this book! Great story - engaging writing! Enjoyed it from start to finish - and what a finish...! Check it out!
Beautifully and uniquely written, Sevier-Fries has done a masterful job writing a love story between a mother, and the daughter she gave up years before. This book held my attention from beginning to end, and I have to wonder why it is not out in hard copy......THIS is a story I would love to put on my "favorites" shelf. It belongs there.
This was a very touching story. Denise held my attention from the very first page. I only wish it had been longer, because I enjoyed the characters so much. Would love to learn more about them.
This is a very heartwarming book. It was difficult reading about Anna Marie's childhood years and the torment she suffered under her adoptive parents but very inspiring to see how she perservered. I found it interesting that Denise Sevier-Fries used her own personal blogs to intertwine with the story. I love her sense of humor! Great job!
I was a bit upset with the ending of this book. I want to know what happened next. I had become so invested in the story. It's sometimes funny, sometimes sad, and even sometimes horrific. It is well written, heartbreaking and hopeful at the same time. I laughed out loud and cried , too. Trust me, you'll want to know more.
I enjoyed this book! In fact, "knowing" the author through online presence, I was a little confused as to whether it was fact or fiction. I zipped right along reading it. Anna Maria's childhood was a little over the top but the rest was very interesting. I wish the two had met.
